There’s a lot of talk these days about living our most authentic lives or being our authentic selves. And that’s great to have the encouragement.
But how do we actually do this? Trying to figure out who we are and what makes us tick can be daunting if we have no framework or idea of how to start.
We can wonder, who am I really? Am I being disingenuous? Is this really what I’m supposed to be doing with my life? The questions, self-doubt, and potential paralysis increase when we’re spinning our wheels.
One of the more useful ways I’ve found to live with authenticity is to know my top three values. Knowing our values gives us scaffolding to evaluate choices, to remember who we are, and to help us be ourselves. Knowing our top values can help us look at the world with compassion because we acknowledge that experience the world in a unique way and know that others probably don’t share our same values.
Value-based decision making allows us to dig into our authenticity by holding up a measuring stick to our choices.
--Are my choices in alignment with my values?
--How can I create a more unified and cohesive life?
--What needs to change so that I can live with authenticity?
Stay curious friends!
